Stratford at nightPrimed as the major location for the 2012 Olympic Games, Stratford is undergoing rapid and financially secure development to cope with the increased concentration of visitors. After the event, athlete accommodation will form part of a substantial property development, and the ‘legacy’ plans in place include the construction of a new University and the largest urban park in Europe for over a century. Stratford’s transport links are exceptional. Stratford station is a major underground transport hub, linked to the Central and Jubilee lines and serving much of the South East via mainline services. It is also on the DLR network and thus Canary Wharf is in easy reach. In addition, Stratford’s transport infrastructure is undergoing massive regeneration and expansion. Stratford International Station will soon be opened as a station on the High Speed 1 route from London to the British end of the Channel Tunnel in Kent. As well as these regular services running to and from the continent, a brand new DLR line will be constructed linking the station to important London locations such as London City Airport and the ExCel centre. The Crossrail project – which aims to build major new railway lines under London – will link Stratford to Heathrow Airport and Maidenhead.
In addition, Stratford City is a multi-billion pound development aiming to regenerate over 73 hectares of land just north of the City Centre, to include a shopping centre similar in size to Bluewater, along with 5000 homes, shopping centres, schools and public spaces.

Pub wise, Stratford has some great offerings. The Railway Tavern is a traditional, well-run establishment that has been in the same family for 40 years. Home-cooked food is served daily, and there is live music on the last Saturday of every month. Alternatively, the King Edward VII (47 Broadway, Stratford, London E15 4BQ) has a band of regular followers and complements its atmosphere with alternative events, such as wine tasting. Nightclub wise, check out Rex (361-373 High Street, London E15 4QZ) a big club with a capacity of over 2,500 and a great atmosphere.

Billingsgate Fish Market, StratfordBillingsgate Market
Billingsgate Market is the UK’s largest inland fish market, with over 25,000 tonnes sold each year. It has existed in various guises since 1400 and offers escorted tours for student groups and professionals.
Stepping Stones Farm
A major local farm that does everything farms do and does them very well. The shop sells a beautiful selection of homemade jams and chutney and there is a fully featured wildlife area and nature trail. Regular events – such as Easter egg hunts – are scheduled throughout the year, and there are a range of typical and exotic farm animals.
